Labour Rejects FG’s New ₦57,000 Wage Proposal, Lowers Demand to ₦497,000

Nigeria’s Organised Labour, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has once again turned down the Federal Government’s latest offer of a ₦57,000 minimum wage.
During recent negotiation talks, the Labour rejected the government’s third proposal within a week. However, they adjusted their stance from an initial demand of ₦615,000 to ₦497,000.
A member of the negotiation committee revealed that the government and private sector proposed ₦57,000, up from ₦54,000 offered earlier. The initial government proposal of ₦48,000 was also dismissed by Labour.
Despite the adjustments, the negotiations are deadlocked just days before the May 31 deadline set by Labour. NLC President Joe Ajaero criticized the latest offer as inadequate, emphasizing the dire economic situation faced by workers.
