Labour Party Denies Merger Talks with other political parties

The Labour Party (LP) has categorically stated that it is not involved in any merger discussions with other political parties.

In a statement released on Friday, Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary of the party, denounced reports circulating about merger talks, describing them as “twisted to embarrass the Labour Party.”

The statement read, “Kindly disregard the sensational news making the round which suggests that Labour Party is working out a merger arrangement with any other political party.”

Ifoh explained that the news was a misrepresentation of a response to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s proposal for opposition parties to unite against a potential one-party system planned by the APC.

He clarified, “There was nowhere in the response that the purported merger between LP and PDP was mentioned.”

Highlighting that the Labour Party had recently concluded the 2023 general election, Ifoh mentioned that a post-mortem had yet to occur, and discussions about the party’s future direction had not taken place.

He assured that once these discussions occurred, the public would be properly informed.

Ifoh concluded by urging Nigerians to disregard such sensational stories and assured them that the party would use its official platform for disseminating accurate information.
