The Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (KWPHDA) has Advocated Exclusive Breastfeeding in the first six months of child for the benefit of the children and their Mothers.
Dr. Nusirat Elelu who is the Executive Secretary of the agency gave the indication while addressing Journalists in a press conference organized in Commemoration of this year’s World Breastfeeding week.
Dr. Nusirat Stated that the first breast milk contains colostrum which is highly nutritious and has antibodies that protect the newborn from diseases.
She said Early initiation of breastfeeding encourages bonding between the mother and her newborn, facilitating the production of regular breast milk.
The KWSPHCDA Executive Secretary also explained that Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months prevents infections such as Diarrhoea and respiratory illnesses and provides all of the nutrients and infant requires for optimal growth and development.
“In this 21st year of celebration of World Breastfeeding week, I hereby implore everyone to work together to protect breastfeeding to ensure that our children are healthy and able to build a greater Kwara and Nigeria as a whole.”
“The Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency will continue to take the lead in advocating for Exclusive Breastfeeding so that the child, the mother and the community at large will derive maximum benefit from breastfeeding.” She Added.
Lastly, Dr. Nusirat call on all stakeholders to join hand with the Kwara State Government to continue to promote breastfeeding of babies by their mothers.
