Kwara Water Commissioner Calls for Enhanced Partnership with LNRBDA to Improve Clean Water Access

The Kwara State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, has urged cooperation with the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA) to enhance the provision of clean drinking water for the state’s residents.

During a meeting with the Managing Director of LNRBDA, Engr. (Dr.) Adeniyi Saheed Aremu, in Ilorin, Hon. Lade emphasized the importance of integrating new technologies to improve water availability throughout the state.

He proposed converting some Waterworks and Mini Waterworks to solar-powered systems to address power supply challenges and maintenance costs.

Furthermore, Hon. Lade pointed out that less than half of the state’s 96 Waterworks are operational at full capacity.

In response, Dr. Aremu expressed appreciation for the Commissioner’s efforts in advancing water supply and infrastructure maintenance. He highlighted the federal government’s contributions to water projects in the state, emphasizing the need for state and community involvement in maintaining these facilities.

Dr. Aremu also discussed the agency’s initiatives for sanitation and irrigation, urging the state to tap into counterpart funding for public toilets to achieve Open Defecation Free status.
