Kwara to begin second round of Polio Vaccination Saturday

The Kwara State Government has revealed its plan to begin another round of vaccination exercise to tackle Polio virus in the state.

Dr Nusirat Elelu, The Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health care Development Agency (KWPHCDA) made this known while speaking at a meeting with stakeholders held in Ilorin, the state capital.

She explained that Two drops of vaccine will be administered to children between 0-5 year, which will protect them from polio virus and enable them have immunity against the virus.

Elelu who was represented by the The Social Mobilization Officer of the agency, Dr. Dupe Shittu said, “The State will be conducting another round of Outbreak Response which will be coming up between 30th of July to 2nd of Aug 2022.”

“Two drops of vaccine will be administered to children between 0-5 year, which will protect them from polio virus and enable them have immunity against the virus.”

“The first round of vaccine was conducted on 1st-5th of July. The second round will be coming up between July 30th-2nd of Aug 2022”.

“People are already getting tired that we are having frequent round.

Speaking on the reason for the frequent round of the vaccination, The KWPHCDA Boss said that reasons for frequent round is that people don’t take their children for routine immunization.

She however charged parent and caregivers to cooperate with health workers and volunteers to ensure that eligible children are vaccinated against polio virus.

Our correspondent reports that the strategies to be use in the exercise are; house to house, Transit/special team (Churches, mosques, school, others) and fixed post will be deploy.
