Kwara Targets Over 1 Million Children for Polio Immunization

The Kwara Primary Healthcare Development Agency (KWSPHCDA) says it has targeted about 1.5 Million children for the Polio Vaccination exercise in the state.

Dr Nusirat Elelu, The Executive Secretary of the Agency, while speaking with Newsmen at the Flag off Ceremony on Friday said that adequate personnel had been deployed to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise across the 16 local Governments of the State.

Elelu said the agency had received enough Vaccine to ensure children under the age of five were immunised against the disease.

She Said, “For this Campaign we are going to utilize House to House strategy and we have deployed about 1401 Team across the State to ensure that every single house is covered.”

“The Polio Vaccination exercise will be run for 4 Days and after the Exercise we will still have the vaccine available in all our primary HealthCare Centers that are offering immunization Services.”

The Secretary, who appreciated the Governor of Kwara State for his unprecedented Support on Health sector, urged parents to present their wards for the immunisation at designated centres.

The flag-off ceremony, which took place earlier today at the Okelele Health Center, Ilorin was performed on behalf of H.E the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr Kayode Alabi by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla who conveyed the Deputy governor’s message, urging the Parent to ensure there children recieve the Vaccine.

The Event was Graced by Notable Dignataries including ; Kwara Government Officials, Health Practitioners, UNICEF Representative, World Health Organization (WHO) Representatives Amongst Others.
