Kwara Secures First Gold Medal at NYG 2023
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to enhancing the state’s sports sector, including infrastructure improvements and improved athlete welfare, has played a pivotal role in this accomplishment.
In the 2023 National Youth Games (NYG), Kwara State secured its inaugural gold medal. The achievement was realized by Ahmed Fatimoh and Faruq Hussein, who exhibited exceptional skills in the table tennis mixed doubles event, triumphing over their counterparts from Delta State with a convincing victory of three straight sets (15, 7; 15, 8; and 25, 7).

Coach Kehinde Aiyelabegan revealed that the athletes underwent extensive training in both open and closed camps in preparation for the national championship.
Remarkably, Kwara State clinched its initial medals a mere 24 hours after the commencement of the competition. With this newfound gold medal success, expectations are high for Team Kwara to continue their medal-winning streak at the games.
