Kwara Poly Inaugurates Newly Elected SUG Executive

Kwara State Polytechnic has inaugurated its newly elected Student Union Government (SUG) executives, a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to student governance and leadership development.

The ceremony, held on Monday, July 1st, 2024 at Rear Admiral Lawal Auditorium of the Polytechnic campus marked a display of democratic enthusiasm.

The newly elected executives, comprising a diverse array of students representing various Institutes and Departments, took their oath of office in front of a large gathering of Polytechnic Principal officers, fellow students, and administrative staff.

The event underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in student governance, with speakers emphasizing the pivotal role of the SUG in advocating for student welfare and fostering a conducive academic environment.

In his remarks, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed commended the outgoing SUG executives for their dedication and urged the newly inaugurated Educator Team to prioritize unity and constructive engagement.

The Rector represented by the Deputy Rector Admin, Mr. Isiaka Abdulrahman, reaffirmed the institution’s unwavering support for student-led initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall educational experience and encouraged the SUG to actively contribute to institutional development.

On his part, the Director of, the Directorate of Students’ Service (DSS), Surveyor Abubakar Aremu commended the outgoing executives for sustaining the peaceful co-existent between the polytechnic management and the students.

While congratulating the inaugurated Educator Team, Surveyor Aremu charged them to follow the steps of the outgoing Executives noting that the management of Kwara State Polytechnic will support their initiatives that will be beneficial to the students and the polytechnic community as a whole.

In the same vein, the Special Assistant to Kwara Governor on Students Affairs, Hon. Wasiu Salami Onidugbe urged the executives to prioritize students’ welfare, unity, and constructive engagement with the school management.

Addressing the audience, the newly inaugurated President of the SUG Distinguished Senator Saheed Olalekan Ishola (Educator) expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and outlined key priorities, including enhancing student welfare, promoting academic excellence, and fostering a vibrant campus community.

Meanwhile, other elected officials pledged their commitment to collaboration and inclusivity, promising to uphold the values of integrity and service throughout their tenure.

As the new SUG executives assume their roles, expectations are high for their ability to effect positive change and uphold the interests of the student body at Kwara State Polytechnic.

At the event were, Mr. Isiaka Abdulrahman, Deputy Rector Admin; Deputy Rector Academics, Mrs. Felicia Awolola; Polytechnic Liberian, Dr. Shuaib Olarongbe; S.A students’ Affairs to Kwara Governor, Hon. Salami Wasiu Onidugbe; and a legal practitioner, Barr. Kareem Azeez.

Institute Directors, heads of Departments, Unit Directors, Lecturers, Former Student union leaders, Elected Departmental and Institute executives, students, and well-wishers were also present at the occasion.
