Kwara Govt warns marketers against displaying goods on road medians

The Kwara State Government has once again urged marketers in Ilorin metropolis to refrain from placing their goods on pedestrian paths, medians, or any areas that obstruct smooth vehicular and pedestrian movement.

Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, the State Commissioner for Environment, issued this directive during the enforcement of environmental regulations in locations such as Maraba, Post Office, and Ipata markets within the state capital, Ilorin.

He emphasized the government’s determination to enforce laws prohibiting marketers from encroaching on road dividers to ensure unrestricted movement of people and vehicles on the roads, warning that anyone caught selling goods on pedestrian or road medians would face immediate arrest and prosecution.

Ndanusa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining road order and preventing the frequent disruptions caused by road encroachments.

In response, Alhaja Bilikisu Elejagbigbe, the Iyaloja of Ipata Marketers Association, praised the government’s efforts to combat indiscipline in the market, particularly addressing the issue of road encroachment. She pledged the association’s support to restore order in the market.

As of the time of this report, Chief Magistrate Aluko had prosecuted 10 individuals for various violations of environmental laws, while others awaited trial for their actions in the field.
