In a commendable display of solidarity, the Kwara State Government has initiated the distribution of financial assistance to 26,852 Kwara State-origin students enrolled in higher education institutions across Nigeria.

The disbursement, which commenced on Monday, follows an extensive screening process spanning several weeks.

Each recipient has received a relief fund of 10,000 Naira, directly deposited into their bank accounts, to alleviate their financial challenges in light of the fuel subsidy removal.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described this support as a modest gesture for the students and part of a broader set of palliative measures introduced since June.

Prof Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, chairman of the students’ palliative committee, stated, “The distribution of the Palliative Fund underscores the government’s dedication to the welfare of its students. By extending this financial aid, the governor is demonstrating empathy towards students and parents who require assistance during these trying times.”

The funds were transferred directly to students’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and efficiency. Extensive efforts were made to assist students from various academic backgrounds, benefiting individuals from 140 higher education institutions nationwide.

A dedicated online platform was established weeks ago for eligible students to register and provide essential information, including their banking details. Following a meticulous data verification and analysis conducted by the technical committee, the number of beneficiaries was finalized at 26,852, after eliminating those with incomplete or multiple registrations, and those with forged citizenship certificates.

The Kwara State Government reaffirms its commitment to the welfare of its citizens, particularly students. This initiative is just one of several introduced to ease the financial burdens on students and create an environment conducive to academic success. Notably, the administration had previously launched free bus services for students, especially in urban areas.
