JUST IN : Supreme Court Upholds Abba Yusuf’s Election as Kano Gov, Rejects Previous Tribunal Decision
The five-member panel declared that both the tribunal and the court of appeal were mistaken in removing Yusuf from office.
Abba Yusuf’s status as the duly elected governor of Kano has been affirmed by the Supreme Court.
The five-member panel declared that both the tribunal and the court of appeal were mistaken in removing Yusuf from office.
The court’s decision comes after it had reserved judgment on December 21, 2023, following appeals.
Initially, the Kano state governorship election petition tribunal had ousted Yusuf in September, deducting votes due to unstamped, unsigned, and undated ballot papers.
The tribunal declared Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress as the winner.
The court of appeal upheld this decision on November 17, asserting that Yusuf was not an NNPP member during the election.
