Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted temporary bail to the former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, for two weeks on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial.

Kyari’s bail was set at 50 million Naira, with a surety in the same amount.

Justice Nwite stipulated that the surety, Kyari’s counsel, must deposit a copy of his call-to-bar certificate with the court’s deputy registrar.

Kyari must surrender his travel passport to the court and report to the nearest National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office during the bail period.

The order is in effect until the court rules on Kyari’s bail application on May 31, 2024.

Kyari’s mother, Yachilla Kyari, passed away on May 5, 2024, but it is unclear if this influenced the bail decision.

In 2021, Kyari was implicated by the FBI in a case involving alleged international internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi. He was later arrested by the NDLEA in February 2020 on drug-related charges and has been held at Kuje prison in Abuja since then.
