Germany has appointed Julian Nagelsmann as the national team coach for a nine-month term, aiming to rejuvenate the team ahead of hosting Euro 2024.

Nagelsmann, the former Bayern Munich manager, will lead the team until the end of July next year, with the possibility of an extension.

He takes over from Hansi Flick, who was dismissed due to poor results, including a disappointing exit at the 2022 World Cup.

Nagelsmann expressed his excitement for the challenge of Euro 2024, emphasizing the significance of hosting the tournament in their own country. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf praised Nagelsmann as an outstanding coach, hoping for success in the Euros.

Nagelsmann, who was previously linked to top club vacancies, including Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, aims to implement an easily grasped playing style for the national team. He also shared his feelings about his departure from Bayern Munich and his perspective on the role of a coach in his life.

Barcelona’s Ilkay Gundogan will continue as the team’s captain, as confirmed by Nagelsmann. Germany’s upcoming matches include friendlies against the USA and Mexico during their tour to the United States in October.
