Jigawa commissioner suspended over mismanagement of funds for Ramadan feeding Programme

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa has taken action against Commissioner for Commerce, Aminu Kanta, following allegations of mismanagement of funds designated for the Ramadan feeding program.
Ismaila Dutse, the public relations officer for the office of the secretary to the state government, conveyed Kanta’s suspension in an official statement released on Friday.
The suspension, effective immediately, is pending further investigation into Kanta’s alleged involvement in mismanagement of funds allocated for the iftar feeding program in Babura Local Government Area.
The state executive council had initially approved N2.8 billion for the Ramadan iftar program, aiming to cover all 27 LGAs of Jigawa.
The program included 600 centers with at least two feeding points in each political ward, as well as designated centers in higher educational institutions across the state.
Dutse emphasized that the suspension underscores the government’s commitment to financial transparency and responsible management of public funds.
An investigative committee, appointed by the governor, will delve into the allegations further.
