INEC annouces date for for national, state assemblies by-elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that by-elections resulting from the resignation or demise of members of national and state houses of assemblies will take place on February 3, 2024.

The vacancies, declared by assembly presiding officers, are spread across two senatorial districts, four federal constituencies, and three state constituencies in nine states.

Additionally, the commission will conduct re-run elections directed by various Election Petition Appeal Tribunals, affecting 35 constituencies in total.

Three constituencies cover the entire area, while others involve only a few polling units. Both categories of elections are scheduled to occur simultaneously on February 3, 2024.
