Ilorin Emirate Gears Up as Emir’s Cup kicks off Saturday

In a remarkable display of community spirit, the Ilorin Emirate Football Council is all set to launch the highly anticipated Emir’s Cup football competition, coinciding with the 28th year coronation anniversary of the Emir of Ilorin.

This event promises not only to celebrate the Emir but also to unearth local football talents within the Emirate and foster unity.

The tournament is scheduled to commence on Saturday, 14th October 2023, at the Queen Elizabeth Secondary School in Ilorin.

A thrilling opening match will feature the University of Ilorin squaring off against Kwara State Polytechnic.

Alhaji Owolabi Agbaji Wopa, Chairman of the main organizing committee and head of the Ilorin West Local Football Council, shared his thoughts on the competition.

He highlighted its primary objective of discovering and showcasing local football talents. “The idea of the tournament was born out of the need to discover football talents within the Ilorin Emirate and showcase them to the world at large,” he explained.

Furthermore, the Emir’s Cup seeks to honor the revered monarch, celebrating his 28-year reign on the throne of his forebears.

This competition serves as a testament to the enduring unity and camaraderie within the Emirate, underlining the significance of the occasion.

The grand finale of the Emir’s Cup is scheduled for November 11, 2023, a date that holds special significance as it aligns with the 28th year coronation anniversary of the Emir of Ilorin.
