Ilorin Emirate Durbar Cup U17 football championship to begin June 10

All plans have been concluded for the 2023 edition of the Ilorin Emirate Durbar U17 football championship to kick off on Saturday, June 10.

The football tournament is part of the week-long activities set aside to mark this year’s edition of the annual Durbar festival.

A total number of 13 teams, who have their names deeply tied to the traditional title holders under the Emir of Ilorin will have over 200 players showcasing their talents during the football fiesta.

With an increased number of participating teams and over 500 players attending the screening exercise which took place on Monday, the competition has become an integral part of the revered Durbar festival.

Other teams will be challenging the current champion of the tournament, Daudu Ballah FC when the tournament proper begins.

Speaking ahead of the kick off, Alhaji Nurudeen Ibrahim, Chairman of the organising committee promised that the tournament will provide opportuinity to discover more football talents that abound in the Emirate.

“We are very happy with the success of the last edition where we discovered a lot of football talents from the ten teams that participated.We will ensure that we keep up to the aims and objectives of this tournament” he said

While urging all the committees to work for the success of the tournament, he thanked the Ilorin Emirate Durbar committee under the leadership of Engr. Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa for their support to the project.

The tournament will further project the rich cultural heritage of the Ilorin Emirate while also complementing the durbar festival and fostering unity among the people.
