Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has publicly stated that he will no longer support Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State.

During an interview on Channels Television on Friday, Wike emphasized that he would not back Fubara again in his political career, stating, “Everyone knows me. I won’t do that.”

Wike reflected on his contributions to Fubara’s successful 2023 election as Rivers governor, highlighting his efforts and sacrifices in securing the victory. According to Wike, Fubara would not have won without his support, yet the governor allegedly spread falsehoods about him after taking office.

Accusing Fubara of dishonesty, Wike said, “You turned it into that I’m asking for N20 billion, and N100 billion. You told lies against me. I brought you up, put you here and there.”

The political conflict between Wike and Fubara has escalated into a full-blown crisis in Rivers State, polarizing the state house of assembly.

The house is now divided into two factions: one, with 27 members, is led by Martin Amaewhule and loyal to Wike, while the other, headed by Victor Jumbo, supports Fubara and comprises three lawmakers. Both factions are in court, seeking a judgment on the legitimate assembly, while the state government recognizes the Jumbo-led group for legislative approvals.
