If elected governor, I’ll convert Lekki tollgate to #EndSARS memorial – BOOT Party Guber candidate

Wale Oluwo, the governorship candidate of BOOT party in Lagos state, says he will convert the Lekki tollgate to a memorial if elected.

On October 20, 2020, there was a shooting incident involving security operatives at the Lekki tollgate while protesters were demonstrating against police brutality under the #EndSARS movement.

Speaking on Wednesday at the official opening of his party’s campaign office, Oluwo, an associate of Akinwunmi Ambode, former governor of Lagos, said he will ensure the implementation of social justice for youths in the state.

The former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also said his intention is to put Lagos on a new trajectory that gives power to the people.

“The reasons I’m running have not changed since the last time I declared my intention to run. My intention is to reset Lagos on a new trajectory of security and inclusive prosperity; to return the wealth of Lagos to the people of Lagos who are the true owners. We want to restore the sovereign power of the people,” he said.

“Today, in Lagos, the sovereign power that the constitution put in the office of the governor of Lagos state is no longer there and it has not been there for a long time.

“That sovereignty has been transferred to another location that is not known to the constitution of Nigeria. We will deliver justice reforms and we will protect human rights and public order.

“We will recognise the struggle of our youths for social justice and the creation of a productive economy. #EndSARS will be one of the things we will recognise as a government and that tollgate, we will convert to an #EndSARS memorial so our people can have a spiritual connection to what happened that day, and they can go out there and honour their colleagues that have fallen.”
