IDA21 summit : Shettima departs Nigeria for Kenya

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Kenya to represent President Bola Tinubu at the International Development Association (IDA21) summit.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, the president’s senior special assistant on media and communications, the summit, hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto, brings together African leaders to discuss the continent’s development priorities.
Shettima is expected to lead Nigeria’s call for a substantial financing package from IDA to support development in Africa from 2024 to 2026.
The summit’s draft communiqué outlines key focus areas, including human capital development, job creation, energy and digital access, climate resilience, and sustainable growth.
It also calls for increased contributions from IDA donors, noting that the current funding of $23.5 billion is insufficient to meet Africa’s development needs.
The Nairobi summit follows earlier IDA meetings in Abidjan in 2022 and Dakar in 2023.
