I was beaten, dragged on floor like criminal by thugs in Imo – Ajaero
Ajaero shared this experience during a press conference in Abuja, explaining that he was initially arrested by the police in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, and subsequently handed over to a group of seven assailants.
Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), recounted an incident where he was physically assaulted and dragged on the floor by unidentified individuals, whom he referred to as thugs.
Ajaero shared this experience during a press conference in Abuja, explaining that he was initially arrested by the police in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, and subsequently handed over to a group of seven assailants.
He emphasized that prior to the protest in Imo State, the NLC had informed all security agencies. Ajaero mentioned that workers present at the protest venue were attacked earlier, with their phones confiscated.
He arrived at the scene around 9 am after learning about the assault on workers, only to be apprehended by the police and handed over to the alleged thugs.
Despite his claim of being a non-affiliated individual, Ajaero expressed bewilderment at the severity of the beating, stating that his hands were tied during the incident.
