Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has shared during a meeting on security that he has received reports indicating he is a target for bandits.

He spoke at an expanded emergency security stakeholders gathering held at the Council Chamber of General Muhammadu Buhari Government House in Katsina.

Governor Radda explained that bandits in the state have adopted a new tactic of targeting impoverished individuals lacking consistent meals, as many informants providing intelligence have vanished.

He further disclosed that bandits are now collaborating with counterparts from neighboring states to escalate abductions and undermine government efforts at restoration. While addressing attendees in Hausa, Governor Radda urged residents to unite, organize, and defend themselves against bandit attacks.

Regarding the persistent surge in food prices, Governor Radda expressed concern that the actions of traders, particularly grain dealers exporting commodities to nearby countries like Niger, Mali, and parts of Libya, pose a threat to the nation’s stability.

He emphasized the need for stakeholder engagement to explore solutions, cautioning that unchecked price hikes could lead to hunger, crisis, and insecurity.

Governor Radda highlighted instances of similar protests in neighboring states and stressed the importance of proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in Katsina.

He cited reports of traders stockpiling goods until prices rise substantially before selling, exacerbating the cost of living for citizens. Governor Radda underscored the severity of the situation, emphasizing the necessity for collective action to address the looming crisis before it escalates further.
