Harry Kane secured a hat-trick during Bayern Munich’s dominating 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, narrowing the point difference with league leaders Bayer Leverkusen to just two points.
Bayern’s captain, Manuel Neuer, praised Kane’s exceptional performance, highlighting his experience and impact in the Bundesliga from his English football days, as he consistently displays his prowess week after week.
Leverkusen, still recovering from a midweek German Cup exit to third-division Saarbruecken, maintained a five-point lead over Bayern, despite the latter being plagued by injuries.
However, Bayern swiftly responded by scoring two early goals within the opening nine minutes of the match.
Dayot Upamecano, recently recovered from a month-long hamstring injury, scored the opener for Bayern with a header from Leroy Sane’s pass.
Sane also assisted in the second goal, setting up Kane for a tap-in.
Bayern’s coach, Thomas Tuchel, emphasized the team’s confidence and quality despite the recent Cup setback, highlighting their strategic approach to the match.
Dortmund, who had been unbeaten at home for over a year, were taken aback by the strength of the supposedly weakened Bayern team, prompting manager Edin Terzic to make tactical changes during the second half in hopes of turning the game around.
Despite Dortmund’s efforts, Kane netted two more goals, finishing with a total of 15 league goals in 10 matches since his transfer from Tottenham to Bayern in the summer.
This match, often touted as Germany’s equivalent of ‘el Clasico’ (Real Madrid vs. Barcelona), showcased Bayern’s continued dominance, having not lost to Dortmund in the league since 2018.
