Group asks FG to rename UNILORIN to Sheik Alimi University
Alongside this, they’ve urged the Kwara State government to display the Emir of Ilorin’s portrait in government offices alongside official portraits of the President and governor.
The Ilorin Elite Group has called on the federal government to rename the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) as Sheikh Alimi University, Ilorin, in honor of Sheikh Alimi ibn Solihu ibn Janta, the founder of the Alimi Dynasty.
Alongside this, they’ve urged the Kwara State government to display the Emir of Ilorin’s portrait in government offices alongside official portraits of the President and governor.
The group praised the state government’s achievements in education and proposed that the Kwara State University of Education be situated in Ilorin.
They also advocated for a Kwara State University of Science and Technology in Ilorin to foster technological and economic development.
Alh Aliyu Otta-Uthman, the president of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), emphasized the need to address unemployment for enhanced security.
He commended the government for supporting the construction of a Skills Acquisition Centre and the union’s Central Mosque.
