Gov Abdulrazaq appoints 26-year-old Student leader as Special Assistant
Salami Wasiu Onidugbé, originally from Ibagun ward, Ilorin East Local Government, Kwara state, began his journey as a student leader in secondary school, actively participating in the Students’ Representative Council at Okelele secondary school, Ilorin.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has appointed a 26-year-old former student leader, Salami Onidugbe, as his Special Assistant on Students’ Matters in Kwara State.
This was contained in a statement released by Rafiu Ajakaye, The chief press Secretary to the Governor on Friday.
Salami Wasiu Onidugbé, originally from Ibagun ward, Ilorin East Local Government, Kwara state, began his journey as a student leader in secondary school, actively participating in the Students’ Representative Council at Okelele secondary school, Ilorin.
His dedication to student leadership continued into his time at Kwara State College of Education, Oro, where he held various leadership roles, such as Convener of the Union of Class Governors, Departmental (English) Public Relations Officer, Reformation Movement Vice Chairman, and Student Union Government President, among others.
Passionate about education, he furthered his studies at the University of Ilorin and served as the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Kwara state during his university years.
In this role, he initiated various programs to empower students, including the establishment of the “AGF Abdulrazaq Entrepreneurship Hub” in Zango, Ilorin, where students receive training in skills such as ICT, fashion design, baking, makeup, hairdressing, and agriculture.
Academically, Salami holds an NCE in English Language (2017) and a B.Ed in Guidance and Counseling (2021). Despite his extensive involvement in student union activities, he excelled academically, graduating as the best student in the Department of English Language during his college of education years and earning a Second Class Honour (Upper Division) from the University of Ilorin.
He received numerous leadership awards, including the “best SUG President in the college,” during the college’s 12th combined convocation.
Salami also played a crucial role in mobilizing students in support of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s re-election bid during the 2023 general election, coordinating the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq Students’ Support Group and organizing various events, including an education reform dialogue, palliative distributions, electoral sensitization, and a mega solidarity rally.
Additionally, he served as the Director of Student’s Engagement for the Kwara APC 2023 campaign council, touring campuses and off-campus student residential areas to mobilize support for all APC candidates in the student constituency.
A mega solidarity rally was also organized to showcase the students’ full support for Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s re-election.
