Funke Akindele Warns Against Piracy of New Film Everybody Loves Jenifa

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has issued a stern warning against pirating her upcoming movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa.
The highly anticipated film is set to debut in Nigerian cinemas on December 13, with a global release planned across 30 countries on six continents from December 20 to January 17.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the 47-year-old actress appealed to her fans to avoid recording or sharing footage of the movie during its cinema run. Akindele stressed that piracy is a criminal act that significantly impacts the livelihoods of filmmakers and actors.
“We’ve put a lot of resources into creating this project,” she said. “Piracy not only hurts the industry but also hinders its growth. Anyone caught filming the movie in cinemas will face arrest as part of strict security measures.”
She urged fans to show their support by taking photos at standees, sharing trailers and teasers on social media, and encouraging others to watch the film legally in cinemas.
“If you love and respect me as a fan, please don’t record the movie or upload it on social media. Instead, support by spreading the word and enjoying the movie in cinemas,” Akindele said. “Filming it is not promoting me; it’s piracy, and we won’t tolerate it.”
*Everybody Loves Jenifa* is the latest installment in the beloved *Jenifa* franchise, which has captured audiences’ hearts since 2008. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Layi Wasabi, Nancy Isime, Jackie Appiah, Falz, Omowunmi Dada, Chimezie Imo, Patience Ozokwor, and Stan Nze.
Akindele expressed her gratitude to fans for their continuous support but reiterated the importance of respecting the industry’s hard work and creativity. “Let’s grow together by doing what’s right,” she concluded.
The movie promises to deliver a mix of humor and heartfelt storytelling, staying true to the franchise’s signature style.
