Former NBA President, Olumide Akpata Joins Edo Governorship Race as Labour Party Candidate
His declaration of interest took place during a visit to the Edo State Secretariat of the Labour Party in Benin City on Thursday.
Former Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) President Olumide Akpata has announced his intention to run for the position of Governor in the Edo State election in 2024, and he has chosen to represent the Labour Party (LP).
His declaration of interest took place during a visit to the Edo State Secretariat of the Labour Party in Benin City on Thursday.
In his statement during the event, Akpata emphasized his commitment to the people of Edo State and expressed his concern that politics and governance in Nigeria often neglect the people’s interests.
He explained that he sees the Labour Party as the most people-centric and people-oriented political party in Nigeria, making it the ideal platform for his gubernatorial candidacy.
Akpata’s decision to join the Labour Party came about two months earlier, motivated by his desire to contribute to solving the challenges facing the state.
He confirmed his party affiliation during a Ward Meeting at Oredo Ward 6 in Benin City, where he was formally introduced to party members and received his party membership card.
Akpata stated that he made this decision because he grew weary of merely complaining about Nigeria’s issues and wanted to actively participate in finding solutions.
He views this as the beginning of a significant journey and hopes to reach his destination successfully.
