Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has contested Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s assertion that states received an additional N30 billion each to tackle food shortages.

Akpabio made the statement recently, but during the commissioning of a renovated mosque in Iseyin, Governor Makinde clarified that Oyo State did not receive such funds.

Speaking out against the politicization of the issue, Makinde emphasized the need for real solutions to pressing issues rather than engaging in politics.

He highlighted that the funds in question were not disbursed directly by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to states, as claimed by Akpabio, but are part of the national revenue distributed among all tiers of government.

Makinde reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the people of Oyo State and emphasized the importance of unity and transparency in navigating the current economic difficulties.

He also outlined the measures his administration has taken to alleviate hardship, including the implementation of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SafER) initiative.

In conclusion, Makinde called for collective efforts to tackle food insecurity and other pressing issues, emphasizing the need for constructive engagement and solidarity rather than blame games and propaganda.
