FG will give women opportunity to contribute to national development – Remi Tinubu
In a statement released by Busola Kukoyi, special adviser on media to Tinubu, the first lady expressed this commitment during a meeting with Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the minister of state for police affairs, who led a delegation of senior female police officers on a courtesy visit to her office at the state house in Abuja.
Remi Tinubu, the first lady, has announced that the federal government is committed to providing women with greater opportunities to contribute to the development of the nation.
Tinubu acknowledged the active involvement of women in the country’s security efforts and emphasized the need for women to play an active role in reshaping Nigeria and addressing societal issues affecting women.
She stated, “It is the beginning of a new era for women in the country, as the current administration will create more opportunities for women to contribute their share. I am also exploring ways to make my own contributions. We cannot have a prosperous Nigeria without individuals innovating and making positive contributions.”
Regarding how female police officers and women, in general, can contribute to a better Nigeria, the first lady encouraged them to take the lead in addressing societal problems such as rape, child abuse, human trafficking, and the proliferation of baby factories.
She stressed the importance of creating a safe environment for women and children, stating, “We want to see our children protected from crimes and mistreatment, especially the rape of minors and children.
There must be a significant reduction in cases of human trafficking, organ harvesting, and the operation of baby factories.”
Tinubu also expressed her hope for a future where a female would hold the position of Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police.
Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim praised the first lady for her efforts in advancing the interests of women in the country. She emphasized the significance of gender equality, the protection of human rights, and the empowerment of women in creating a just and equitable society.
Additionally, Sulaiman-Ibrahim discussed ongoing initiatives to reform the Nigeria Police, making it a modern, responsive, intelligence-led, and technology-driven institution.
She sought the first lady’s collaboration and support in achieving these critical objectives.
