FG paying more money on petrol subsidy than before – El-Rufai

Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna state, has stated that the federal government is now allocating more funds towards petrol subsidy compared to previous periods.
Despite President Bola Tinubu announcing the end of petrol subsidy in his May 29, 2023, inauguration speech, el-Rufai revealed during a recent discussion with journalists that the government has resumed subsidizing fuel.
El-Rufai emphasized the necessity of pragmatism in leadership, acknowledging that policies may need to be adjusted based on practical challenges encountered during implementation.
Additionally, there have been reports suggesting that President Tinubu is contemplating a temporary reintroduction of petrol subsidy, although no final decision has been reached yet, according to sources within the presidency as reported by TheCable on August 15, 2023.
