FG has no hand in Rivers crisis – Minister
Following the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Rivers House of Assembly, Speaker Edison Ehie, in an undisclosed location, declared their seats vacant with only lawmakers loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara present.


Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has asserted that the federal government is not implicated in the current political turmoil in Rivers state.
Following the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Rivers House of Assembly, Speaker Edison Ehie, in an undisclosed location, declared their seats vacant with only lawmakers loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara present.
Speaking after a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, the minister clarified that while Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is involved in the crisis, the federal government maintains a neutral stance.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to peace and stability in all states, including Rivers, and denied any federal involvement in creating the political problem in the state.
