FG Aims to Lift 50 Million Nigerians Out of Poverty – Minister
She explained that the government is currently providing financial support of N25,000 to vulnerable households for three months, totaling N75,000, as an immediate measure to alleviate the country’s hardship.
Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, recently stated that the Federal Government aims to lift 50 million Nigerians out of poverty, revising an earlier target of 133 million stated three months prior.
She explained that the government is currently providing financial support of N25,000 to vulnerable households for three months, totaling N75,000, as an immediate measure to alleviate the country’s hardship.
Edu emphasized the meticulous verification process to ensure the right beneficiaries receive the aid, citing the importance of NINs, BVNs, and verification before disbursing funds. She noted that the government’s efforts, in collaboration with President Bola Tinubu, aim to create employment opportunities for millions of Nigerians.
Edu also highlighted plans for inter-ministerial collaboration to combat multi-dimensional poverty, involving ministries of finance, health, education, and others.
Previously, in August, Edu had mentioned the government’s commitment to lifting 133 million Nigerians out of poverty.
