Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said his administration’s resolve to focus more on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of inter and intra township roads in 2022 is to bring about meaningful development and boost the people’s general economic status.
Fayemi said the roads billed to be urgently addressed included the Ado Ekiti-Iworoko Road, Omisanjana- Ajebamdele Road; Odo-Ado Road, as well as the Igirigiri Road up to the Ado Local Government Council secretariat; Ilawe-Ikere Road; Iloro-Ijurin-Ayegunle-Temidire Road; Ifaki-Esure-Eyio-Awo Road; and the Itapa-Ijelu-Omu Road.
The governor also said his administration made frantic efforts to construct the Akure-Ikere-Ado Road, but could not achieve it due to the country’s federal arrangement.
He spoke during his monthly radio and television programme tagged, ‘Meet Your Governor’, and gave an assurance that he would continue to ensure adequate welfare of the people by ensuring that he addressed projects and programmes that would enrich and add value to their lives.
The governor, who said his administration was not oblivious of some of the challenges posed by the roads, said he would address the roads before the beginning of the rainy season next year, adding that the state government was also cooperating with the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to ensure the rehabilitation of federal roads in the state.
Fayemi said, “The one that is of major concern to most Ekiti people is the Ado-Ikere-Akure Road. That is one road that we’ve spent more time trying to address than any other road. The challenges that we are facing is due to the nature of our federal system.
We got money to fix the road; the owner of the road refused, saying that we cannot fix it; we transferred the money to them and they awarded the contract; there is a contractor on the road as we speak, but they don’t have enough allocation from the Federal Government in the budget to accelerate the work. It is a N30bn contract, but if you check the 2021 budget, only N1bn was put in it for that road.”
He promised Ekiti people that the 2022 election would not distract him in his drive to improve the lot of the people through various programmes and projects that his administration initiated.
