FACT CHECK : No, Saliu Mustapha Is Not giving out N10, 000 Ramadan Gift

False claims circulate online that Saliu Mustapha, Kwara Central Senator and the Turaki of Ilorin is giving out N10,000 as ramadan gift. The claim was widely circulated through WhatsApp groups.

A message sent by user with the number +2348168981523 on “Youth Focus Foundation” WhatsApp platform this morning directed people to click the link to claim their own.

FINDINGS

Findings conducted by SHO PEN ONLINE showed that Senator Saliu Mustapha’s media office has described the claim as a falsehood that should be disregarded.

In a statement, Saliu Mustapha’s media office said that the alleged scheme labelled “N10,000 RAMADAN SUPPORT FROM SOLIU MUSTAPHA TURAKI OF ILORIN” is operated by unknown fraudsters who could not even spell the candidate’s name correctly.

The statement urged the public to disregard any communication that did not originate from any of the official social media account and to avoid participating in any online scheme intended to defraud innocent citizens.

In additional findings, a click on the link will take the users to a website in which they will be asked to fill in personal details and then apply. A click on the ‘apply’ function will ask for bank details.
