Ex-Nigerian Senator dumps PDP for APC

Two-time Edo South Senator, Matthew Uroghide, and several other defectors have formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Uroghide made the switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC at a ceremony in Benin City last Saturday, marking the end of his 13-year-three-month tenure with the PDP.

Identifying himself as a foundational APC member, Uroghide expressed his satisfaction in reuniting with a party of seasoned leaders he trusts.

He pledged to contribute to the APC’s growth and support its candidates in the upcoming 2024 Edo gubernatorial election.

The event also saw the formal embrace of other political figures, including former House of Representatives clerk and 2023 Owan Federal Constituency candidate Patrick Giwa, as well as eight local government chairmen, such as Frank Ilaboya of Owan West Local Government Area.

Prominent APC figures like Senator Adams Oshiomhole were present to welcome the new members. Oshiomhole extended apologies to Uroghide for past misjudgments and commended his resilience and political acumen.

Recognizing Uroghide’s experience, Oshiomhole nominated him as the APC’s director general for the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial campaign, a role Uroghide accepted.
