The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially unveiled Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

The unveiling ceremony took place on Monday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja, attracting a gathering of sports enthusiasts and stakeholders eager to welcome the 47-year-old Franco-Malian tactician.

Chelle’s appointment was approved last Tuesday by the NFF Executive Committee, following a recommendation from the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee.

Speaking during the event, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau expressed optimism about Chelle’s ability to steer the national team to greater success.

“Nigerians are deeply passionate about football, which is why reactions to Coach Chelle’s appointment have been diverse,” Gusau stated. “We urge everyone to support him as we believe he possesses the expertise to achieve great results with the Super Eagles.”

Gusau also assured that the NFF would provide all necessary support to ensure Chelle thrives in his role. “The NFF is committed to giving him the backing required to succeed,” he emphasized.

Chelle’s first test will come next month as he leads the Super Eagles B team at the African Nations Championship in East Africa. His focus will then shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March, where Nigeria faces Rwanda away and Zimbabwe at home.

The NFF noted that Chelle brings substantial experience to the position. He previously guided Mali’s Aiglons to the verge of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. Until recently, he managed Algerian club MC Oran, leaving his role with the 1989 African Champions’ Cup finalists to take charge of the Super Eagles.
