EPL : Man city Suffers First League Defeat
Manchester City’s impressive 32-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League ended with a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday, dropping the English champions behind Liverpool at the top of the table.
Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson scored on either side of halftime to give the Cherries a comfortable lead before Josko Gvardiol pulled one back for City.
City, dealing with a string of injuries, suffered their first loss of the season in any competition during a midweek League Cup match against Tottenham. Manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged that several players were playing through pain, but Bournemouth—who previously defeated Arsenal at home—added to City’s woes.
Semenyo opened the scoring in the ninth minute, spinning onto a Milos Kerkez cross. Evanilson extended Bournemouth’s lead just after the hour mark with another Kerkez delivery.
Gvardiol’s powerful header from an Ilkay Gundogan cross gave City hope with eight minutes remaining, and Erling Haaland nearly salvaged a point, striking the post from close range in stoppage time.
City now trails Liverpool by two points, as Liverpool rallied to defeat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield. However, the damage was mitigated by Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle, preventing a larger gap from opening between City and their title rivals.
