Emirship Tussle : Court Orders Police to Evict Ado Bayero from Mini Palace

A High Court in Kano State, presided over by Justice Aisha Adamu Aliyu, has issued an order instructing the Commissioner of Police in Kano to remove the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from his residence, referred to as the Mini Palace.

According to court documents obtained by Daily Trust, the judge granted an order prohibiting certain individuals from holding themselves out as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye until a motion on notice filed by the Applicants is heard and determined.

The court further directed the Commissioner of Police to take immediate possession of the Emir of Kano’s palace and remove him pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The order also restrains specified individuals from parading themselves as Emirs of the aforementioned places in the interest of peace in Kano until the motion on notice is resolved.

The respondents in the case include the deposed Emirs of Karaye, Gaya, Bichi, Rano, and Kano, as well as the Inspector General of Police, Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Army.

The applicants are the Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly.

The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Isah Dederi, confirmed to BBC that the state government had received the earlier order from a Federal High Court, which halted the reinstatement of the Emir after the action had been completed on Monday.
