El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri have clinched the 2024 men’s President Federation Cup. The Borno-based team triumphed over Abia Warriors with a 2-0 victory in the final held on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

In a fierce contest, the Borno Army emerged victorious, thanks to a brace from Nasiru Salihu. The midfielder scored once in each half, securing the coveted trophy for El-Kanemi.

Under the leadership of Ali Zubairu, this win marks El-Kanemi’s third President Federation Cup title in the club’s history and their first in 32 years. Along with the trophy, the team received a N50 million cash prize.

El-Kanemi, the 2001 runners-up, had an early chance to take the lead, but Salihu missed a penalty. However, he redeemed himself by opening the scoring in the 32nd minute. He later doubled the lead in the 68th minute, ensuring a well-deserved victory for his team.

With this triumph, El-Kanemi, recently promoted to the NPFL, will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.

In the women’s category, Rivers Angels showcased their experience by defeating Naija Ratels 1-0 to claim the title. This victory marks their ninth title, ending a six-year drought. Blessing Okpe, the competition’s most valuable player, scored the winning goal from the penalty spot, earning Rivers Angels a N25 million cash prize.
