EFCC recovers N30bn from Betta Edu’s investigation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reports that it has successfully retrieved N30 billion through its investigation into Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s directive on January 8, the EFCC commenced a thorough examination of financial transactions within the ministry.
The suspension led to the temporary halt of social investment programs such as the N-Power program, conditional cash transfer program, government enterprise and empowerment program, and homegrown school feeding program.
The EFCC has been actively probing both the suspended minister and the ministry. According to Ola Olukoyede, EFCC Chairman, the investigation has uncovered 50 bank accounts under scrutiny, with the recovered N30 billion now in the federal government’s treasury. Olukoyede stressed the importance of allowing
time for thorough investigations, noting the complexity of the case and the need to follow proper procedures.
He urged Nigerians to exercise patience, emphasizing the professionalism of the EFCC team and the significance of the ongoing inquiries.
