Economic hardship: Lagos to feed 1,500 people daily in each LGA

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, has announced plans to collaborate with local canteens, commonly known as “mama put,” to provide daily meals to 1,000 to 1,500 residents in each of the state’s local government areas.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu stated that this initiative aims to alleviate the effects of the increasing cost of living, which has led to protests across the country.

He highlighted that beyond addressing hunger, this approach would support small-scale restaurants in the state.

Sanwo-Olu also emphasized the establishment of teams to ensure efficient distribution of food to the intended beneficiaries through government records and community-based organizations.

Additionally, he outlined measures such as allowing civil servants to work three days a week and reducing state-owned transport fares by 25 percent.

Furthermore, the governor mentioned plans to introduce “Sunday markets” with discounted food items and called for private sector involvement in alleviating the ongoing hardships in the country.
