Don’t Let Police Officers Extort Your Hard-Earned Money, Egbetokun tells Nigerians

Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has advised Nigerians not to surrender their hard-earned money or properties, even under police intimidation.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday at the police force headquarters during a meeting with key officers overseeing internal control mechanisms, Egbetokun emphasized his commitment to bridging the trust gap between the police and the public.
The IGP called for swift justice against erring police officers and the implementation of measures to address unprofessional behavior.
“Over the years, we have seen some personnel’s conduct significantly deviate from the expectations of the force leadership,” Egbetokun stated.
“Officers, who are expected to uphold integrity and meet society’s high moral standards, often breach the public’s trust.
“At this juncture, I want to stress that while we continue to enforce internal measures against extortion and other vices, citizens must also play their part.
“I urge the public never to yield to intimidation or unjustly part with their hard-earned money or properties.”
Egbetokun encouraged Nigerians to report any infractions by police officers to the relevant authorities and instructed senior officers to recommend personnel who display courage, integrity, and humanity.
