Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), urged Nigerians to awaken to the reality that no judgment from the supreme court will inherently grant them democracy.

He made these remarks during an Arise Television interview, following the supreme court’s validation of Bola Tinubu’s win in the February 25 election, despite challenges from Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.

Baba-Ahmed emphasized that neither the tribunal nor the supreme court truly endorsed Tinubu’s victory, asserting that the Labour Party unquestionably won the 2023 presidential election.

He urged the populace to stand up for their rights and highlighted the flaws in Nigeria’s democratic system, expressing frustration at the perceived injustice and the inability to alter the outcome legally.

Acknowledging the finality of the supreme court’s decision in election disputes, both Baba-Ahmed and Obi accepted the ruling, albeit with dissatisfaction regarding the perceived inadequacies in the process.
