Court orders Mohbad’s wife to do DNA test

A magistrate court in Ikorodu, Lagos has ordered that Wunmi, the wife of the late singer Mohbad, be notified of a pending DNA test application by substituted means.
Substituted means are methods for formal delivery of court papers that replace personal service.
In a statement signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the legal team to the Aloba family, on Wednesday, Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s dad, sought an order to serve Wunmi the court papers for the DNA, by posting all the originating processes and other processes in the suit on the last-known address of the respondent.
The statement added that the order became necessary after the court sheriff allegedly attempted to serve the court process personally on Wunmi twice, but failed.
“If the process were served on the last-known address of the respondent by Order of the Court, it would constitute good service and she would be aware of the pending suit,” it reads.
“The Chief Magistrate granted the order and ordered that the respondent be served by posting the court process on her last known address.”
The statement added that despite saying she was ready for a DNA test, Wunmi “had never been available for the court sheriff to serve her the originating motion”.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day.
On September 21, Mohbad’s body was exhumed by the police. An autopsy was carried out that same day after which the police announced that they were awaiting the results.
His death has continued to spark social media discussions, including speculation about the paternity of Liam, his son.
Aloba earlier vowed that Mohbad would not be reburied until a DNA test was conducted to know the paternity of Liam.
He also called on the police to probe Omowunmi to unravel the cause of the singer’s death.
Wunmi agreed to the DNA test but requested it be conducted at three hospitals.
She also alleged that Aloba connived with some people to bully her and Liam on social media.
