Court orders arrest of Kano singer over ‘song lyrics’
The court acted upon a complaint filed by Badamasi Gandu, a legal practitioner, who accused Gwanja of promoting immorality and violating the state’s cultural norms.

A high court in Kano has issued an arrest warrant for Ado Gwanja, the Kannywood actor and singer, citing his use of inappropriate language in his songs.
The court acted upon a complaint filed by Badamasi Gandu, a legal practitioner, who accused Gwanja of promoting immorality and violating the state’s cultural norms.
The court instructed the police to arrest and investigate Gwanja, along with six other suspected accomplices.
Despite Gwanja’s attempt to obtain a restraining order against his arrest, the court reversed its decision and directed the police to proceed with the arrest and investigation.
Additionally, the court banned Gwanja from posting his music online and performing at public events, mandating that he must submit his songs for approval by the Kano film and videos censorship board before public release.
Gwanja’s songs, such as ‘Kujerar Tsakar Gida’ and ‘Mamar-Mamar,’ are popular, particularly among women and youths in the northern part of the country.
