Cote d’Ivoire sacks coach after AFCON exit
The country’s football federation cited “insufficient results” for terminating the contracts of Gasset and assistant Ghislain Printant.
Jean-Louis Gasset has been dismissed as the coach of Ivory Coast, hosts of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, just two days after a 4-0 defeat against Equatorial Guinea.
The country’s football federation cited “insufficient results” for terminating the contracts of Gasset and assistant Ghislain Printant.
This decision follows Ivory Coast’s humiliating 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea, marking the team’s heaviest home defeat and making them the first Afcon host to lose two group games since 1984.
Despite the setback, the Elephants still have slim hopes of advancing to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.
The interim coach will be Emerse Fae, one of Gasset’s coaches. In related news, Ghana has also parted ways with Black Stars coach Chris Hughton.
