Marc Cucurella’s transfer to Chelsea is imminent after additional negotiations with Brighton on Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old has already committed to joining the Stamford Bridge team and is seeking approval after Brighton’s owners have approved the specifics of the fee and payment.
Cucurella submitted a transfer request last week after Manchester City’s attempts to acquire him for less than £40 million were unsuccessful.
The former Barcelona academy product was thought to only want to work with Pep Guardiola, but he has changed his mind after hearing about Chelsea’s plans under Thomas Tuchel and the club’s new owner Todd Boehly.
When negotiating a separate move for the 19-year-old Chelsea center-back Levi Colwill, who made an impression while on loan at Huddersfield last season, Brighton has also shown interest in Angelino, a former Manchester City full-back now playing for RB Leipzig.
Chelsea has struggled mightily over the past several weeks to improve Tuchel’s defensive options, but the signing of Cucurella, Brighton’s Player of the Year from the previous campaign, will be a big success.
Malang Sarr will be able to transfer to Monaco on loan with a purchase option for almost £10 million thanks to Cucurella’s presence.
