Burna Boy makes history, Becomes First African To Hit Two Billion Streams In UK
Burna Boy, known as the African Giant, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first African artist to surpass 2 billion streams in the United Kingdom.
The Grammy-winning artist received this prestigious accolade backstage at his sold-out concert in Koko Camden, London, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of his acclaimed 2019 album, African Giant.
This achievement holds special significance as it marks a significant moment in Burna Boy’s career, which soared internationally with the viral success of his hit single “Ye” from the same album.
Adding to his recent successes, Burna Boy had previously celebrated reaching 1 billion streams with a sold-out concert at London Stadium just a month ago.
Upon receiving the Brit 2 billion streams plaque at his concert, Burna Boy expressed his gratitude with a wide smile, emphasizing the effort it took to reach this milestone. “Thank you very much. I appreciate you. Ehen, now that’s it. You’ve to fight for your right,” he said.
When a presenter suggested he already had the achievement without needing to fight further, Burna Boy reiterated his sentiment, saying, “No. You know, we have to fight for our rights.”
