Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has taken fans by surprise with the announcement of his eighth studio album’s release date.

The singer revealed on his X page that the new album will drop at midnight on July 30.

“Album dropping by 12am,” he posted.

The unexpected announcement surprised fans since the ‘African Giant’ hitmaker had not teased the album beforehand.

Some fans speculated that the 33-year-old singer might be playing a prank.

This news follows Burna Boy’s recent celebration of the fifth anniversary of his Grammy-nominated 2019 album ‘African Giant,’ marked with a concert at the Koko Camden.

Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy rose to fame with ‘Like to Party,’ the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013).

In 2021, the Afro-fusion singer made history in Nigeria when his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall’ (2020) won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammys.

Burna Boy has released seven albums to date: ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013), ‘On a Spaceship’ (2015), ‘Outside’ (2018), ‘African Giant’ (2019), ‘Twice As Tall’ (2020), ‘Love, Damini’ (2022), and ‘I Told Them’ (2023).

In April, the Port Harcourt-born singer was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people for 2024.

Burna Boy also recently became the first African artist to hit two billion streams across platforms in the United Kingdom.
