Buhari has been actively engaged in farming activities – Garba Shehu
In a statement released on Thursday, marking Buhari’s 100 days out of office, Garba Shehu explained that Buhari’s decision to reside in Daura, Katsina State, rather than the nation’s capital, was a deliberate move to allow President Bola Tinubu’s administration to operate without distractions.
Garba Shehu, the media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has disclosed that Buhari has been actively engaged in farming activities, dedicating four days a week to this pursuit.
Shehu remarked, ‘This week, President Muhammadu Buhari completed 100 days outside of office after serving two four-year terms as Nigeria’s President.
He chose to reside in Daura, keeping a considerable distance from Abuja, not only to avoid interfering with the new APC administration but also to have a well-deserved rest and attend to his farm, which had been neglected during his absence.
‘Buhari spends four days a week on his farm and is pleased with the progress of his crops and livestock. While he does get a chance to rest, the visits from well-wishers have not diminished.’
Despite the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidies, which led to higher transportation costs, Buhari continues to receive visitors from various parts of the country.
These visitors include party loyalists, grassroots organizations, farmers, craftsmen, artists, community and religious leaders, nurses, doctors, and other professionals.
Shehu noted, ‘To manage the influx of visitors, a weekly schedule is prepared for him, similar to his time in the Villa. However, many individuals, regardless of their schedule, still make the journey to Daura in the belief that he has the time to meet with everyone.
Some even pool resources to hire buses to visit him, which Buhari observed as a change since the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Tinubu administration.’
The statement concluded with Buhari reflecting on the impact of the subsidy removal on the frequency of visits from well-wishers.”
